Sustainable Energy for All and the UN Foundation to integrate energy access program

Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL) and the UN Foundation have announced an agreement to integrate the UN Foundation’s energy access program into SEforALL, officially bringing both organizations’ energy initiatives and staff together. Through this merger, the two institutions will be able to have an even greater impact going forward in their shared goal of delivering the clean and sustainable energy solutions that the world needs, including by scaling up our efforts in areas such as energy and health, clean energy mini-grids, and energy for displaced people.

This merger comes after eight years of close collaboration and partnership between SEforALL and the UN Foundation, during which we have worked together with all of you to help build a nascent sustainable energy movement into the vibrant force that it is today.

One of the drivers of this progress over this period has been the Energy Access Practitioners Network (EAPN), which provided a home for many of you to share your ideas, expertise and best practices. When it was launched, the sector was still in its infancy. The EAPN’s growth from a 20 to 2,600-member strong network is a testament to how far we have come. So are all the great insights, connections and initiatives that have spun out of the EAPN’s numerous webinars, newsletters, reports, and events, over the years.

And while we are immensely proud of what the EAPN has achieved, we are also mindful of the need to evolve to best meet the challenges facing the sector today. The maturation and increased specialization of the energy access field means that a single network of practitioners may no longer be the optimal way of sharing information among this diverse group – and thus, we have decided to conclude the EAPN over the course of this year and engage you in new ways at SEforALL.

Thanks to all of you — the practitioners, partners, donors, and supporters — who made the Network what it is. We are extremely proud of what we have achieved together.

But there is more to do, and new ways to stay in touch and contribute in this new phase. To start, we encourage subscribers of the EAPN Newsletter to continue following us via SEforALL’s newsletter and social media channels here.

We look forward to continuing to work towards achieving Sustainable Development Goal 7 on clean and affordable energy for all by 2030 and to going further, faster together.

Kind regards,

The Energy Access Practitioners Network team
