April 23, 2014 – 3M Provides Grant to New Vision on Behalf of 3M Employees/Volunteers
Philippi, WV – April 21, 2014 – 3Mgives has included New Vision Renewable Energy as one of seven nonprofits to receive donations through their 3Mgives Volunteer Match program — part of their employees’ commitment to the community. The 3M Foundation will match gifts made by 3M employees and alumni dollar-for-dollar until a cap of $70,000 is reached.
“3M employees and alumni generously give their time and skills to help improve lives,” said Kimberly Price, vice-president, 3Mgives. “We are pleased to recognize their commitment to their communities.”
3Mgives and 3M Team Africa, an employee-driven team dedicated to empowering communities in Africa, partnered with New Vision this year to provide 300 lights to the villages of Koba Adi and Bidire in Southern Ethiopia. Team Africa and New Vision taught over 70 5th grade students at L’Etoile du Nord, a French immersion school in the St. Paul Public School District, how to make their solar lights that are available as kits. These lights will be sent to schoolchildren in Ethiopia. On Earth Day, 3M Team Africa will provide a showcase on their work with New Vision and teach co-workers how to assemble the light kits.
As part of the 3Mgives Volunteer Match, the 3M Foundation will also donate $250 to eligible non-profit organizations for which a 3M employee volunteers 20 hours or a 3M retiree volunteers 25 hours or more per calendar year. Since 2000, Volunteer Matches totaling over $5 million have gone to over 3,000 schools or non-profit organizations in 50 states plus the District of Columbia.
