United Nations has called on
businesses, governments, and
civil society to achieve Sustainable
Energy for All by 2030
From the UN Foundation – July 2016
It’s that time of the year again! I would like to announce the opening of our annual UN Foundation Energy Access Practitioner Network survey, and invite all our members and partners to participate here.
This is the fifth consecutive year that the Practitioner Network has surveyed practitioners to collect real-time impact and barrier data pertinent to the energy access sector. In the time I have managed the Practitioner Network’s member relations and activities, it has been my pleasure to witness the growing success and complexity of our members’ great work in scaling up decentralized energy solutions.
As the largest membership-based network focusing on decentralized energy solutions, with a broad-based membership spanning 170 countries, the Practitioner Network’s surveys have a significant role in identifying remaining challenges in the sector, as well as making the case for your collective success and scale. For example, the 2015 survey demonstrated a more than $1 billion investment opportunity towards universal access to modern energy services by 2030.
In order to gain detailed insight into the markets in which our members operate, and in an effort to leverage our diverse membership and minimize the time commitment on your part, we have designed a “branched” survey that will take each member through questions that are pertinent to your areas of expertise. This year’s survey will be both regionally and technologically specific; in addition, we are soliciting responses for questions specifically designed for: investors and donors active in the energy access space, government agencies, research institutions and academia, and of course our largest member tranche – businesses, social enterprises and civil society organizations. Whether you work on appliance efficiency, humanitarian relief, or solar lantern distribution, you will find tailored questions in our survey.
I would also like to mention that a portion of the survey has been jointly prepared with Sustainable Energy for All and will directly feed into their planning process around market intelligence and finance flows for high access-deficit countries. This is a great chance for Practitioner Network members and partners to assist Sustainable Energy for All in their country implementation strategy for 2016 and beyond.
So please take a moment to participate in our survey, which can be accessed via http://svy.mk/29754hf until August 18. As always, the responses will be anonymous and used only for aggregate data purposes. Last year, we achieved close to a 20% response rate, and we are counting on our members for even better representation this year. Results of the survey will be made available to the public on our website, www.energyaccess.org, later in the year.
Finally, speaking of our 2015 survey above – please be on the lookout for the re-opening of our interactive Investment Directory, showcasing the $1 billion+ opportunity to invest in the energy access space, as represented by Practitioner Network members, for new submissions and member profile updates starting in September. Details will be forthcoming after the closing of our annual survey!
If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact me or reach out to us at firstname.lastname@example.org.
