Launch of the Decade of Sustainable Energy for All Americas
September 5, 2014
The launch of the United Nations Decade of Sustainable Energy for All in the Americas will take place in Santiago, Chile, from October 15-17, 2014. The President of Chile, Ms. Michelle Bachelet will host the event, and Dr. Kandeh Yumkella, Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General, will present the most recent progress of the global initiative.
Representatives from the Inter-American Development Bank, the United Nations, governments, and various multilateral agencies, civil society, and the private sector will attend the event. Register by visiting the event page and clicking on the registration link.
The launch aims to provide a platform for announcements and specific contributions in the energy sector, and to create a declaration about the vision for SE4ALL for the next 10 years.
The launch will be followed by a Regional Meeting and two days of technical sessions within the SE4ALL framework (the three objectives: access, efficiency, and renewables). These activities serve to: i) define and agree on actions for SE4ALL Americas for the next 10 years, ii) Define priority actions for each objective that can be addressed in 12 months to advance the goals of SE4ALL in the Americas, and iii) Identify how the proposed actions will be carried out.
Ministry representatives from countries in the Americas are invited to participate, along with representatives from the private sector and representatives from the civil society.
