World Bank Announces Global Roll-out of the RISE Project
December 17, 2014
In order to more effectively tackle energy poverty at the national level and achieve the three objectives of the Sustainable Energy For All(SE4ALL) initiative by 2030, the World Bank has announced a global roll-out of the Readiness for Investment in Sustainable Energy project(RISE).
RISE will act as a global reference point for countries seeking to move towards a sustainable energy future, offering national benchmarks for policies and best practices that will help catalyze the objectives of SE4ALL – ensuring universal access to modern energy services, doubling the share of renewable energy in the global energy mix, and doubling the rate of improvement in energy efficiency—all by 2030.
According to the World Bank pilot report announcing the global roll-out, RISE is “a suite of indicators that assesses the legal and regulatory environment for investment in sustainable energy”. RISE will help more accurately depict the prevailing national enabling environment to attract investment into sustainable energy.
RISE is expected to help aggregate many sources of information—from government to private and from utilities to regulators – at the national level. The global roll-out will serve to further draw and refine information from all stakeholders involved. Read the report in detail here.
